Prashna
Live questions and quizzes for trainers, teachers and speakers
You're running a workshop, a class or a talk. Half the room has a question. Nobody asks. And you can't tell who's keeping up.
Prashna is for that room. People ask questions from their phones without giving their names. They answer quick quizzes and polls. You see the questions and the answers while you talk.
What Prashna does
- People ask questions anonymously. Others upvote them, so the most wanted questions rise to the top.
- You run quick quizzes and polls.
- One shared projector screen shows the room the questions and the quiz.
- Phones join with a code or a QR code. There is no app to install and no sign-up.
- You can export the questions and quiz results to Excel.
Why Prashna
- It runs on your own laptop. One command starts it. You need no server and no subscription.
- A built-in tunnel puts it online for your audience. The tunnel needs
cloudflared, orngrok. - Your data is stored on your machine.
- It is free and open source, under the MIT license.
Install
On macOS or Linux, open a terminal and run:
$ curl -LsSf https://sankara.net/prashna/install.sh | shOn Windows, open PowerShell and run:
PS> powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://sankara.net/prashna/install.ps1 | iex"The installer gets uv, a Python tool manager, if you do not have it. Then it installs Prashna from PyPI.
Already have uv? This command installs the same prashna command.
It is the same on macOS, Linux, and Windows:
$ uv tool install prashnaTo try Prashna first, this command runs it without installing the prashna command:
$ uvx prashnaIt keeps using the version that uv already has. To get the newest version, run:
$ uvx prashna@latestIf you have Python 3.11 or newer, you can use pipx instead:
$ pipx install prashnaStart it
$ prashnaPrashna opens your browser. On the first run, you choose an admin username and password.
To let your audience join from their own phones over the internet, start it with a tunnel:
$ prashna --tunnel cloudflare
This needs cloudflared. No Cloudflare account is needed.
To use ngrok instead, run prashna --tunnel ngrok.
